Fishing tournaments usually end up in the sports section of the local newspaper, but when they’re made up completely of female anglers who are raising money for the fight against cancer, they make news that’s worthy of custom article mounting.
The Bluewater Babes of Jupiter, Florida, host an annual fishing competition called Fish for a Cure. The original line was cast in 2009, and ever since then, the event has continued to grow and become a magnet for fisherwomen with a sense of seafaring style and a desire to help others.
Catching the Eye of Local Media
A reporter with The Palm Beach Post recognized a great story and ran with it, giving the Babes some great ink to help promote Fish for a Cure and boost donations and tournament entries. Volunteer coordinator Jennifer McGrath said proceeds – which have totaled as much as $50,000 per event – go directly to The Cancer Alliance of Help and Hope and Hearing the Ovarian Cancer Whisper. Those Florida groups specialize in financial help for women who are undergoing treatment for breast and ovarian cancers, and the publicity generated by the press coverage served to boost awareness of the benefit tournament and the groups it benefits.
McGrath recognized the importance of memorializing this event and this effort, which is why she decided to have that article preserved in a custom frame from That’s Great News.
