The American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME), in conjunction with the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, every year presents recognition awards to the best magazines in the industry.To be chosen as a nominee, publications up for consideration must be published in print and/or digital platforms, and must consistently demonstrate superior execution of editorial objectives, innovative techniques, noteworthy journalistic enterprise, and imaginative art direction.
There were almost 300 publications entered into the 2012 competition, which created a total of 1,804 entries across all categories. Only 67 publications were then nominated for the 2012 National Magazine Awards by the judges, which were formed by a panel of magazine journalists and journalism educators.
